Mitten in Quebec - das John Abbott College

The first few days were really              exciting! I met loads of people of different nationalities: Mexican, Nigerian, German and – of course – Canadians. When I arrived at the airport on Thursday my hostmum, Florencia, picked me up with her baby and her daughter. I really like them all, as Florencia and Michaella (the daughter) are both really nice and the baby is so cute! :) Their house is of medium size and I got a very lovely room with a biiiiig bed, closet, mirror, TV and stuff. Pretty luxury…

On Saturday the orientation weekend started: All the German and Mexican students were showed around the college. It’s huge! The whole EMA would probably fit into Herzberg, which is the mainbuilding, but there are about 5 more of them and the college owns a farm with many acres of land and it is also connected to McGill Unversity, so it’s technically Quebec’s biggest CEGEP (that’s kind of the school form).

We also were told a lot of rather uninteresting stuff, about insurances, college policies and underage drinking. In Quebec you may not drink alcohol under the age of 18, and unlike in Germany, the police men really control what’s going on in bars & clubs (at least I was told so)…

Sunday there was a trip to Downtown Montreal. They showed us the shopping district, the restaurant area and the Olympic Stadium, which is kind of huge but not very pretty. After that we all went to Fairview, a big mall near Kirkland, which is where I live now. It’s actually a very nice place to go to for shopping, as there are all kinds of shops really close by :)

As you might have noticed, almost everything around here is BIG. What also is big, but not in a positive way this time, is the price for food & the time you usually wait for a bus. But, finally, I would say: I’m pretty sure to enjoy the time I’m going to spend here.

You’ll here from me soon!

Love from Montreal,

Hannah
